Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Tax Manager for our Personal Tax Advisory Group in one of our Northeast, Ohio offices: Cleveland, Akron, or Wooster.

The Tax Manager in our PTAG group will specialize in personal and fiduciary tax and is responsible for all facets of client engagements, which includes supervising staff and directing the day-to-day progress of the engagement. The Tax Manager is preparing to assume increasing responsibility to handle a larger quantity and complexity of client assignments and begin developing client relationships.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Continues to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the tax law, regulations and expands knowledge of all types of complex tax issues. Research and analytical skills are a major component of this position.
    • Provides advice to other firm members and consults directly with clients regarding tax issues.
  • Applies appropriate accounting and tax theory during engagements to ensure data is accurate and reliable.
  • Directs the overall progress of larger tax return projects and tax research, including planning, organization, delegation, and coordination of work to ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Identifies problems or opportunities for improvement in clients’ systems, procedures, or business operations.
  • Coordinates staff to provide services to resolve tax-related issues.
  • Appropriately communicates with members of the engagement team so that needed information is shared and deadlines and modified deadlines are known.
  • Assists with, and as necessary, leads efforts at engagement planning such as:
    • Outlines major issues and problem areas.
    • Determines needs for additional information or facts.
    • Supervises and reviews staff in the preparation of tax returns.
    • Responsible for completing workpapers, checklists and research memos.
    • Submits reviewed tax returns on a timely basis.
  • Participates in the proposal process. Begins to train on administrative, practice management, and development matters.
  • Provides timely and consistent coaching and feedback to staff with their career development and advancement, as well as assists in the completion of performance evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Further develops expertise in the rules of federal, state and local taxation as set forth by statutes, regulations, and governmental pronouncements. Understands Meaden & Moore’s technical standards by reading the Firm’s communications and attending all internal trainings and technical meetings.
  • Complies with continuing professional education requirements.
  • Actively participates in firm and community programs (social and/or educational).
  • Seeks opportunities to expand professional network, identifying prospective referral sources and/or clients. This may involve active participation in a trade or professional association, preferably in a leadership capacity.
Qualifications

  • Accounting/Business (or related) degree preferred.
  • CPA preferred, but not required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years’ related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) as well as basic knowledge of operating systems.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in the following:
    • Quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
    • Building relationships and leadership ability
    • Project management
    • Business development
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to work in a team environment.

Compensation And Benefits

Determining actual compensation relies on many factors including individual candidate experience, qualifications, and comparable benchmarks. Base compensation for this role typically ranges between $100,000 and $130,000. Additionally, we offer a generous incentive program and various other bonus opportunities which reward exceptional performance.
