What is Lifebanc?
Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position Description:
This position is responsible is to provide both supervision and leadership in the daily activities of the Referral Services both in the field and within the donor referral center. This position is responsible for the facilitation of all training and continuing education for the department. This position is responsible for the facilitation of organ, tissue and eye donation process through the identification and evaluation of each potential donor to ensure optimal outcomes for the donor families and recipients.
Essential Functions:
· Provides supervisory oversight of Transplant Coordinators (TC I, TC II and TC III) to ensure efficiency and compliance with all Lifebanc, UNOS and CMS regulation.
· Prepare the on-call schedule for the organ services department to ensure adequate coverage.
· Completes timekeeping expectations for departments.
· Reviews and approves team and contracted expenses related to donor activities.
· Fulfills shift coverage as a TC to develop and maintain skill and to provide coverage and availability for donor activity.
· Provides onsite leadership and oversight in the field to support clinical teams and process.
· Assists in the planning of departmental staff meetings and training.
· In collaboration with Manager, leads daily team huddles and participates in case starts.
· Assists Manager by providing feedback on performance in alignment with TC job expectations.
· Fulfills necessary job functions of the Manager of Transplant Services when coverage is needed.
· Assures consistent compliance with local, state and federal regulations and professional standards related to organ recovery.
· Maintains compliance and adherence with OPTN policies and bylaws, and AOPO standards.
· Participates in internal clinical policy and procedure review and reflection to ensure accuracy with OPTN and AOPO standards, and staff is trained and updated on changes within an acceptable timeframe.
· Collaborate with the Education Department on all TC training including annual competencies.
· Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts that impact the organ donor process.
· Oversee and assist with day-to-day operations using clinical and operational expertise.
· Assists with escalation needs and support of the staff to include outside of regular business hours, which includes night and weekend coverage.
· Assists in analyzing and monitoring departmental data and audits.
· Performs other job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of three years of critical care and/or a minimum of two years of experience as an RN working as a Transplant Coordinator/equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience demonstrating leadership responsibilities (management, supervisor, charge, or team leader).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to organize and prioritize workflow.
• Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and multi-task under extreme pressure with deadlines.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations and industry guidelines regarding donation.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements imposed by OPTN and CMS.
• Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and medical records.
• Ability to work nights and weekends and for greater than 24 hours at a given time.
• Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, multitask and to demonstrate effective decision making within the scope of assigned authority.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently from home, the office or hospital settings.
• Comfortable working extended shifts and being on-call, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of basic equipment, e.g., printer, scanner, copier, and electronic communication devices simultaneously.
• Ability to travel as needed (within service area).
• Current valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
· Physical stamina, including the ability to function at full capacity for hours consecutively.
· Ability to lift amounts over 50 pounds and carry and move Lifebanc and hospital equipment.
· Ability to perform direct patient care and transfers, assisting hospital personnel.
