For more than 35 years, Lifebanc has changed and impacted lives. The mission of Lifebanc is to save and heal lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation for transplantation, provide professional and community education, and offer grief services to donor families. More than 500,000 Americans are alive today because of an organ transplant. However, our work is not done. There are still more than 120,000 men, women, and children in the United States currently waiting for a life-saving transplant, including 1,900 in Northeast Ohio. Lifebanc is the non-profit organization working in Northeast Ohio to save and heal lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation for transplantation. We work tirelessly to educate people that one organ, eye, and tissue donor can save and heal more than 50 lives. The fact is that organ, eye, and tissue donors and recipients are more than statistics or medical stories. They are our friends, our neighbors, our families – they are our community. Lifebanc serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio and works with 80 hospitals and two transplant centers. Lifebanc is a member of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), which has been managed by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) since 1986. Lifebanc is proud to be a local host of the upcoming Donate Life Transplant Games - Cleveland June 10-15, 2016. Along with local partners, the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, Eversight Ohio, University Hospitals, and the Cleveland Clinic, the games are expected to bring thousands of recipients, donor family members, and supporters to “celebrate, compete and commemorate” the gifts of life given and received.
