POSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member and community-focused YMCA aquatic programs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives and goals. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Conducts regular/ frequent sanitation of all equipment (rescue and member used), and assigned areas as outlined by YMCA Leadership. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and federal, and YMCA health and safety regulations. Ensures aquatic safety best practices are in place throughout the branch and that a culture of aquatic safety is developed by conducting safety drills that involves multiple departments and assures team adhesiveness in an emergency. This also ensures that all staff members are aware of protocols when responding to an emergency in the facility. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool(s). Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Conducts/Assures lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings are delivered. Creates and schedules YMCA aquatics programs (such as swim lessons, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets). Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Develops and monitors safety, swim team and program budgets to meet fiscal objectives. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. Assists with Program Committee meetings Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Serve as a Cause Driven Leader on Duty (CDLOD). Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Education Associates Degree preferred. In lieu of Associates Degree, High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency and2-3 years of the related work experience.Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required Three (3) years supervisor and/or leadership experience preferred, ex. head Lifeguard, aquatics coordinator or supervisorCertification(s) and Requirements: Certified Pool Operator required. Preferred before hire, or must be obtained within 90 days of employment. Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification required Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hireTechnical Skills and Knowledge: Within 30 days of hire, completion of YMCA program-specific and Operational trainings: Blood Borne Pathogen, Ten Commandments of Effective Lifeguarding, Child Abuse Prevention and Recognition, Incident Reporting, Bullying, Active Shooter, Allergies, Driver Safety, Harassment, Proper Lifting, New Employee Orientation and Program and Financial Operation Trainings Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications. Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics. Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process: completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).
