POSITION SUMMARY:

Assistant Teachers supervise a group of children in licensed Before and After School Enrichment or Early Learning programs. They create positive, nurturing relationships with youth while building cooperative relationships with parents or caregivers.

The YMCA of Greater Cleveland has several Childcare programs across the region and candidates are encouraged to apply at multiple sites. We offer competitive wages and a shift differential.

This is an excellent opportunity for college students studying early education, recent graduates, and adults seeking a flexible part time morning and afternoon schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide an engaging, physically and emotionally safe, and inclusive environment to encourage play, exploration, and learning.
  • Encourage active participation and age-appropriate social interactions.
  • Embrace differences in personality, temperament, development, learning style, and culture.
  • Develop friendly and respectful relationships with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Identify, document, and report suspected child abuse and neglect as required by law. All YMCA employees are mandated reporters of child abuse.
  • Implement weekly lesson plans.
  • Assist with data collection on growth, development, and learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of experience working with children in a licensed childcare center strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • At least 18 years old.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift and move up to 50lbs
  • Sound perception at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Able to orally communicate and instruct.
