POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Assistant Swim Team Coach will assist the Head Coach with leading age-appropriate activities for groups of swimmers at practice. Promote and incorporate the YMCA's core values and mission into all aspects of the job and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attend all practices and swim meets.
- Give swimmers knowledge to understand and master strokes allowing for movement up through the swim team groups, and provide corrective feedback that will enhance swimmers' techniques.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents.
- Ensure the safety of swimmers at the practice by following proper precautions and regulations.
- Lead practices of the group(s) with care and excitement.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by supervisors.
- Assist with the recruiting, development and maintaining volunteers and parent groups/committees.
- Lead warm ups.
- Organize equipment
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer preferred.
- Prior coaching experience preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate correct swim techniques and strokes.
- Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
Certification(s) and Requirements:
- CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport.
- Must have knowledge of and be able to demonstrate correct swim techniques and strokes.
- Have a general knowledge of anatomy, and exercise physiology, and kinesiology/ body kinematics.
- Must have general understanding of child development, and physiology
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
- Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions
- Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process: completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).
