Job description
Position Summary: The Expediter ensures prompt and polite service to the members and guests. Serves as the liaison between the kitchen and servers. Carries food trays to appropriate tables and serves food to guests. Responsible for preparing service stations, clearing and resetting tables, removing all trays from the dining/banquet rooms and cleaning and closing service stations. Reports To: Dining and Bar Manager, Outlets Manager, Events & Dining Supervisor Supervises (Direct): not applicable Supervises (Indirect): not applicable Status: Full time, Part time and Seasonal, Non-Exempt Job Tasks (Duties): 1. Assists servers. 2. Ensures all service stations in the kitchen are stocked and ready for service. 3. Ensures plated hot food leaves the kitchen quickly. 4. Carefully matches all food items to correct orders. 5. Carries food trays to tables using the correct seat positions on the ticket 6. Maintains cleanliness of service stations in kitchen while ensuring that the kitchen is free from clutter and that the kitchen floor is a clean and safe work area. 7. Ensures that bread, soup and other food products are available. 8. Ensures that all items in “to go” orders are correctly assembled and labels them by stapling the ticket to the bag. 9. Wipes up spills or drips on the rims of dishes and ensures the consistency of plate presentation. 10. As requested, assists Bussers in the dining room with clearing soiled dishes, filling waters and setting the dining room. 11. Breaks down and cleans service stations in the kitchen at the end of the shift. 12. Reports complaints to manager on duty when received. 13. Opens meeting rooms and function areas prior to the start of the meetings and functions. 14. Verifies that all scheduled functions are set according to Banquet Event Order specifications. 15. Responsible for the cleanliness and order of all public areas adjacent to banquet functions. 16. Responsible for storing equipment and materials properly and in the correct areas. 17. Ensures that all storerooms and equipment storage areas are orderly and clean. 18. Sets up indoor meeting and outdoor banquet function areas with the appropriate equipment and materials, including tables, chairs, glasses, China and any other items requested. 19. Inspects equipment for defects, cleanliness or any maintenance that needs to be completed and reported to supervisor. 20. Sets lighting, props, floral arrangement, decorations, etc., as specified in the Banquet Event Orders. 21. Responsible for setting coffee breaks according to Food and Beverage standards. 22. Retrieves and returns function linens to proper locations. 23. Prepares all banquet functions for the following day according to the supervisor’s directions and Banquet Event Order. 24. Cleans all assigned work areas in dining and banquet areas. 25. Consistently follows all safety and/or food safety-related requirements. 26. Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the manager on duty and/or AGM. 27. Performs other tasks and duties that may arise. Knowledge, Skill, Ability Requirements: • High School diploma or GED required. • Previous restaurant or club experience preferred. • Food safety certification preferred. • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations. Physical Demands and Work Environment: • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch. Continuous repetitive motions. • Physical exertion over long periods of time • May work in hot and humid environment. • Push, pull and lift 50 pounds. • Able to work in a busy, noisy environment. • Able to tolerate exposure to cleaning agents. • Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment, which is typical of this position. • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping. • Continuous standing and walking, must be able to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time.
