Job Description

Please note: Effective October 1, 2025, the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services has transitioned to its new name—the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. This change reflects our continued commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered care that addresses the full range of behavioral health needs for Ohioans. All positions and services now fall under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health as we move forward in serving individuals, families, and communities across the state.

What you’ll do at DBH:

  • Performs skilled & semi-skilled maintenance, replacement, minor installation & repair of plumbing equipment, electrical equipment, carpentry work involving alteration &/or repair to buildings, equipment & wooden structures

  • Performs spot roof repair & installs security devices, locks & window air conditioners.

  • Escort contractors per hospital-wide new tool control policy/procedures.

  • Assists in &/or performs minor painting of fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs & equipment

  • Patches plaster & prepares surfaces for painting; assists in masonry work.

  • Operates machine tools & welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts & equipment

  • Assists in repair & maintenance of interior & exterior maintenance equipment & other specialized equipment

  • Completes & maintains work related documentation

  • Performs other related duties as required

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of #5 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 7:00am - 3:30pm. This position is located within our Heartland Behavioral Healthcare campus at 3000 Erie Street South, Massillon, OH 44646.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment). In accordance with Section 124.11 (B) (2) of Revised Code, Director of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.

-Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
