The Commercialization Engineering Team is seeking a R&D Technician to support the commercialization process for new and existing paint products. This role is accountable for executing routine experiments, recording results, and demonstrating basic knowledge of raw materials and basic equipment/computing tools to capture and record data. This role has familiarity with scientific principles, products and/ or processes. This role functions under moderate supervision and communicates within the department. This role is responsible for independently performing basic tasks, although support from supervisor may be needed for more challenging and complex tasks. This role is accountable for contributing to the execution of projects and/or the solution of problems of minimal to moderate complexity.
Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. This role is not remote/hybrid. This role will report to Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.

BASIC QUALIFICATION:
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
• Must be at least 18 years of age
FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
• Must have a High School Diploma
Preferred:
• Project Management Certification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• 2 years of experience in a lab setting
• Basic math skills and data analysis
Preferred:
• Previous Commercialization, paint making, coating or processing related field experience
• Experience in project leadership/management
• Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote)
Responsible for the following under moderate supervision:
Lab Processing
• Independently performing lab testing including scale-ups, test methods, and heat age stability
• Executing routine experiments, recording results, and learning basic knowledge of equipment/computing tools to capture and record data. May lead a portion of a more challenging project with support from supervisor/project lead.
• Developing basic knowledge and understanding of processing and raw materials
• Executing and analyzing experiments, providing regular updates to project lead/supervisor
• Identification/assessment of technologies, paint making and testing, data analysis and application of paint formulation/knowledge to meet performance requirements.
• Writes basic reports, outlines procedures used, and results obtained
• Recognizes problems and suggests ways to implement corrective actions to resolve the issue, may require support from supervisor
• Analyzes data, begins to draw conclusions, and begins to make recommendations
• Proficient in operating moderately complex lab instruments
Project Management
• Identifies continuous improvement opportunities, validates and implements change with support from supervisor
• Support commercialization product validation and continuous improvement projects. May lead a portion of a more challenging project with support from supervisor/project lead.
• Analyzes data, makes decisions based upon data, demonstrates critical thinking and recognizes anomalies. May require coaching and support from • supervisor on path forward.
• Communicates within the project team regarding project needs and status with limited support
• Establishes own timeline for assignments based on priorities with moderate assistance from their supervisor; identifies and resolves hurdles with moderate support from supervisor.
• Drives continuous improvement projects forward with moderate support from supervisor
Safety and Quality
• Ensure Safety, Housekeeping, and ISO practices are followed.
• Maintains all required certifications and follows quality standards.
• Actively seeks to reduce risk through corrective action of unsafe practices.
• Documents and maintains an up-to-date electronic lab notebook and project folder per/maintains ISO standards.
Communication
• Clear and concise written documentation and verbal presentation of information and the ability to adapt to audiences within the department.
• Maintains accurate documentation of lab results and technical information.
• Has awareness of group business knowledge and understands impact of work decisions
• Communicates/interfaces within department; communicates with other departments, develops relationships & influences others with support from supervisor
• Communicates work progress, status, completion, issues and works with supervisor to suggest solutions.
