Responsibilities

The Business Advisor, Product Stewardship plays a critical role in supporting the General Industrial business within the Performance Coatings Group. This position serves as a strategic partner to internal teams – including R&D, marketing, and sales – as well as external customers, by providing expert guidance on regulatory compliance. The advisor monitors emerging legislation, communicates regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle, and advocates for the business in internal and external forums. Additionally, the role drives continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements and delivering training on key stewardship topics. This is a dynamic position ideal for someone passionate about regulatory strategy, customer engagement, and sustainable product development.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

(1) Product Stewardship Stakeholder Support:

  • Provides support to the Performance Coatings Group General Industrial business stakeholders, including R&D, marketing, sales and customers.
  • Provides strategic support to business(es) based on regulatory requirements and emerging legislation.
  • Communicates regulatory and stewardship requirements to stakeholders during all stages of new product commercialization process.
  • Identifies varying regulatory requirements by product type and region.
  • Works with other product stewards and regulatory affairs subject matter experts as needed in support of businesses and other stakeholders.

(2) Customer Support:

  • Serves as the single point of contact to the General Industrial business on legislative, regulatory and product safety/sustainability issues.
  • Monitors, tracks and communicates issues which will impact S-W products or our customers
  • Serves as an advocate for the General Industrial business on internal and external legislation and customer issues.

(3) Continuous Improvement:

  • Identifies areas of process improvement and communication in support of the General Industrial business.
  • Provides training and seminars for business team members or other groups within S-W on current topics within product stewardship.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in sciences such as chemistry, engineering, industrial hygiene, or similar

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in sciences such as chemistry, engineering, industrial hygiene, or similar

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 3+ years’ experience in product stewardship or regulatory affairs.
  • Proven experience in managing regulatory and stewardship requirements for businesses

Preferred:

  • 6+ years’ experience in product stewardship or regulatory affairs.
  • Experience with global regulatory requirements

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Expertise in a wide range of North America chemical and product regulations, such as OSHA hazard communication, TSCA, Prop 65, etc.
  • Experience in paint & coatings or chemical industry
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Expertise in a wide range of global chemical and product regulations, such as EU REACH and Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulations
  • Experience in interpretation of regulations
  • Experience delivering technical presentations to diverse audiences
