Saint Martin de Porres High School is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and self-driven Math Department Chair & Teacher to be part of an innovative college-prep and career readiness high school experience for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Math Department Chair will teach 2 periods per day, utilizing the remainder of the workday to support the Math Department.
OUR ORGANIZATION
Saint Martin de Porres High School is part of the Cristo Rey Network of Catholic schools designed exclusively for students of modest means. Our competitive edge is our Corporate Work study program, which allows students to gain real world work experience while receiving a college preparatory education. Eighty percent of our students will be the first in their extended families to go to college. Our rigorous curriculum, which includes students working in a corporate environment, was designed specifically for our school by a committee of prestigious educational leaders. Saint Martin was founded in 2004, we are chartered by the state of Ohio and accredited through the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association. POSITION SUMMARY
The Math Department Chair serves as both an exceptional classroom teacher and an instructional leader, responsible for advancing student achievement and strengthening math instruction across the department. This leader will bring a clear vision for improving college readiness in mathematics, including driving growth in SAT math performance and ensuring all students are prepared for postsecondary success.
This role blends direct teaching responsibilities with curriculum leadership, and team development, with a strong focus on coaching math teachers through consistent, actionable feedback, modeling high-quality instructional practices, and building teacher capacity to improve student outcomes—ensuring all classrooms deliver on-grade-level, data-informed, and engaging instruction aligned to Saint Martin’s mission.
Department Chair Responsibilities:
- Models exceptional, student-centered instructional practices in their own classroom, setting a high standard for rigorous, engaging, and data-informed teaching across the department.
- Lead the building of content-specific curriculum by giving regular, constructive, and actionable feedback to their teachers’ weekly planning documents (i.e., lesson plans) that support our goal of being college preparatory/on grade-level, data-informed, & culturally responsive.
- Ensure their department’s teachers align with Saint Martin’s faculty policies and practices, including: Grading Policy & Family Communication Policy.
- Weekly coaching meetings with department members to review planning/alignment feedback.
- Weekly check-in with Dean of Academics to review coaching notes (see 1 - 3 above) and as necessary, identify additional formal support for individual teachers.
- Engage in biweekly leadership meetings with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Dean of Academics to ensure alignment on priorities, progress, and instructional outcomes.
- Facilitate content team meetings twice a month during Friday Professional Development time with an emphasis on looking at student work, data talk, and critical friends protocols with teachers to promote a more data-informed culture with faculty.
- Understand that the school is in the ongoing process of developing innovative policies in education. Must be flexible in all matters involving teaching, school administration, programs, and curriculum development.
Math Teacher Responsibilities:
- Teaches 2-3 periods of Math per day.
- Develop lesson plans in accordance with the school’s innovative curriculum.
- Expected to turn in lesson plans weekly and unit plans quarterly.
- Use informal and formal assessments to make adjustments to classroom teaching in order to support and track student learning.
- Engage with professional learning teams that promote and require collaboration, peer review, and multidisciplinary lesson planning.
- Coordinate field trips for curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Communicate with parents/guardians.
- Participate in Corporate Work Study Program & Admissions events as assigned.
- Participate in the development of the school’s teaching policies, procedures and methodologies.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree preferred; however, a Bachelor’s degree with appropriate experience will also be considered.
- Ohio Licensure Preferred: Mathematics and Integrated Mathematics (9-12)
- A teacher who is inquiry-minded and has an awareness of 21st century skills and approaches to mathematics education.
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ teaching years in an urban environment preferred.
