School Based Therapeutic Behavioral Supports (K-5th) provides a holistic wraparound system of care for the student and the family. School-based TBS specialists help students learn strategies to cope with stressors in the school setting. These therapeutic services provide an opportunity for students to practice and receive ongoing support to interact successfully with teachers and peers, and then transition these skills to their home. The TBS specialist helps bridge the gap between the school and home environment. Engaging the family in the therapeutic process allows for higher success in skill building that can be maintained.
School Based TBS Responsibilities: Provide an array of interventions or activities to the student and their family at school and in their home environment assisting with wraparound care. These activities may include:
- Providing education on diagnosis-related symptoms
- Provides interventions which facilitate the client developing interpersonal and community coping skills, including adapting to home and/or school and work environments
- Directly working with the student at multiple levels
- Providing the link between family and school to assist in creating avenues for open communication and dialogue
- Crisis prevention and planning
- Assisting school personnel to develop specific approaches and interventions based on the unique student’s background and issues
- Providing information on community resources and supports
- Referral and linkage to other healthcare, behavioral healthcare, and non-health care services
School Based TBS Requirements:
- A bachelor’s or a master’s degree in social work, psychology, nursing, or in related human services; in lieu of degree a high school diploma with a minimum of three years of relevant experience will be considered
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must pass background check
