Job Description
The Opportunity: As the Accident Prevention Coordinator at Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility, you will oversee the facility’s Health and Safety program and serve as the point of contact on safety matters. This role balances administrative oversight with hands-on inspections to ensure a safe work environment.
Core Responsibilities:
Serve as the facility Safety Officer; develop and implement policy; collaborate with management and employees to develop safety systems and annual safety goals
Review, test, and audit safety practices, emergency procedures and work environments; assist in identifying accident prevention activities, including Employee Health and Safety training
Serve as the facility Fire and Safety Officer; inspect all fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, emergency lights, and other safety equipment; act as the American Correctional Association (ACA) chairperson for mandatory standards related to flammable, toxic, caustic materials
Coordinate Workers’ Compensation claims’; investigate injuries/accidents and ensure they are reported according to policy; conduct accident analysis on all at work injuries and report findings; communicate with employees to ensure understanding and completion of forms
Oversee the facility’s Transitional Work Program; coordinate modified duty assignments with supervisors

Qualifications
4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in business administration management science or public administration.
Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; and 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position.
Or completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file; and 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position or staff position involving planning, research &/or policy/procedure development.
Or 1 yr. exp. as Program Administrator 1, 63122.
Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above

BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE:

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING:
All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. Training Academy hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Travel, meals, and lodging are provided.
