What We Need YOU To Do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest intern in the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at one of our many locations throughout the State of Ohio.

Essentials. Let's talk about 'em:

As a college intern, you'll receive training and orientation on all aspects of our materials and waste management program and assist the technical staff with a variety of program duties. We have multiple positions to choose from:

Scrap Tire Intern

  • Provide education and outreach to scrap tire generating businesses on the proper management of scrap tires in an effort to reduce theft, open dumping, and illegal transportation of scrap tires.

  • Identify scrap tire generating businesses for assigned geographical areas and performs site visits to share resources and information with business representatives.
  • Coordinate and support scrap tire collection days across the state to provide greater access to Ohioans to recycle scrap tires, leading to fewer unlawfully dumped tires.
  • Support the division’s duties and receives training in multiple aspects of office and field activities involved in the solid waste and construction & demolition debris programs.

    Engineering Intern

  • Support the division's duties and receive training in multiple aspects of office and field activities involved in the solid waste and construction & demolition debris program.
  • Perform data entry and review of 20 years of interface shear strength data from Ohio solid waste landfills to ensure testing requirements provide appropriate stability.
  • Assist in ground water sampling and gas sampling, as needed.
  • Coordinate and support scrap tire collection days across the state to provide greater access to Ohioans to recycle scrap tires, leading to fewer unlawfully dumped tires.

Planning Intern

  • Coordinate and support scrap tire collection days across the state to provide greater access to Ohioans to recycle scrap tires, leading to fewer unlawfully dumped tires.
  • Assist in development of Ohio’s solid waste management plan by collecting and evaluating data to inform waste reduction strategies.
  • Assist in the development of Ohio’s comprehensive organics management plan by collecting and evaluating data to information organics recovery strategies, including composting, anaerobic digestion, and food rescue.
  • Support the division’s duties and receive training in multiple aspects of office and field activities involved in the solid waste and construction & demolition debris programs.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a college degree program directly related to the position or have recently graduated within the quarter/semester immediately preceding the start date.
  • Major area of study: Environmental Science, Water Resources, Chemistry or Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical) or relevant field of study.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, public relations, Agency policies and procedures and permits as applicable.
  • Skills in computers (word processing and database work)
