The Sr. Manager of Cyber Defense is responsible for the day-to-day management of threat intelligence, security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and other operational missions. This position requires both the ability to tactically focus on immediate threats at hand as identified in alerts and reporting, as well as, strategically remain focused on the overall cybersecurity threat landscape. Candidates must be highly analytical, technically competent, and have an ability to provide focus and calm during incident response scenarios.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing team of Cyber Defense analysts tasked with day-to-day operational roles and responsibilities. Includes: hiring and retaining the best talent, career development and training, and managing the on-call nature of the roles.
  • Managing existing and future contractual relationships with technology and service providers. This includes working to address support issues, contract management, regular touchpoints, and Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Engaging with key technology stakeholders in addressing log gathering and monitoring needs. Ensure security monitoring tools have the right visibility for proper detection of cyber attacks.
  • Setting a strategy, executing a visibility roadmap, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring quality in threat intelligence, security monitoring, incident response, and threat hunting operations.
  • Leading your team and communicating with management during incident response to ensure timely notification and efficient containment. Responsibilities include: coordinating technical response, communicating progress to senior leadership, documenting IR progress, and following through with post-mortem reviews to identify the root causes of security incidents and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Engaging with key technology stakeholders in creating a policy, vulnerability data gathering, and reporting and tracking of enterprise vulnerabilities. Ensure the organization has the right tools to detect and manage vulnerabilities.
  • Ensuring Cyber Defense meets regulatory compliance of both internal and external auditors and protect sensitive monitoring and investigation data.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent working experience.
  • 10+ years IT/Cybersecurity experience
  • Proven experience leading and coordinating IR efforts in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of network security, malware analysis, intrusion detection, and related technologies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels and explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, with a commitment to delivering results
  • Understanding of various operating systems (Windows, UNIX, Linux, etc.).
  • Familiarity with relevant cybersecurity frameworks and regulations (e.g., NIST, GDPR)
  • Experience with SIEM/SOAR solutions, such as Splunk, Cortex, etc.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Relevant certifications such as the GIAC Incident Handler (GCIH) are preferred
  • Experience with the MITRE ATT&CK framework, managing Indicators of Compromise (IOCs), and driving end-to-end efficiencies in the response lifecycle
  • Exposure to Incident Response in the Operational Technology domain
