We are looking for a non-medical lab tech and Chemical Hygiene Officer.

The primary function of this position is to Maintain the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) per regulation through delegation. The position serves UNIQUE in the oversight of safety and quality related items system wide. Also to test samples according to the test methods established by the company for quality assurance purposes.

Responsibilities:

· Maintain and revise the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) per regulation

· Create and revises safety rules to meet regulatory requirements

· Conduct regular inspections of the Lab per the Chemical Hygiene Plan

· Oversee safety inspection and personnel training

· Maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) information for UNIQUE; create, maintain and report SDS per the CHP

· Act as UNIQUE’s point person for the Product Roll-Out process in developing production procedures, QC requirements and safety implications to the organization. Coordinate training with organizational stakeholders

· Audit the processes and execution of the manufacturing and QC of materials to ensure proper compliance with UNIQUE’s standards and objectives

· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

· Log in all the samples in specific logbooks neatly identifying material types and prepare them for testing according to ASTM and/or established company standards

· Assist the lab director with special projects.

· Take the initiative to assist in all laboratory activities as appropriate.

· Maintain and clean the lab equipment and apparatus to minimum standards as established by lab director.

· Bachelor’s degree in chemical, engineering and/or safety field and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Insurability through UNIQUE’s insurance agency for required automobile travel.

· Overnight travel.

· Excellent listening and communication skills.

· Well organized and detailed oriented.

· Computer aptitude. Spreadsheet, presentation, and database skills essential.

· Able to manage workload and meet deadlines.

Knowledge:

· Some experience in the field of chemistry is a plus.

· Knowledge of physical terms and conversion of metric to U.S. systems required.

Attendance:

· Incumbent will be required to adhere to defined lab schedule with minimum supervision.

· Adjusted work schedules will be required throughout the year to accommodate workload. Incumbent will be required to adjust to modified schedule with advanced notice.

Attitude/Appearance:

· Incumbent is required to maintain a professional attitude and appearance in the lab and when representing Unique. Lab coats, safety equipment and appropriate resources will be provided to meet specific assignments.

· The incumbent will be required to maintain and wear safety equipment appropriate for the activity.

· The incumbent will be required to maintain items provided and returned to Unique if requested.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate with others.
  • Ability to solve basic math functions using calculators.
  • Use of copy machines, computers and other office equipments.
  • Ability to read, understand and implement the test methods.
  • Must be able to handle hot and cold samples.
  • Must be able to lift heavy samples, 50-60 pounds.
  • Must be able to retrieve samples from tanks and trucks.

Candidate must be willing to work on-site in Cleveland, Ohio.
