POSITION SUMMARY

Technicians play a critical role in supporting patient care by gathering and documenting essential data used by physicians to deliver accurate diagnoses and treatments. This position involves a blend of administrative and clinical responsibilities, including obtaining patient histories, conducting preliminary and ancillary testing, scheduling, preparing exam rooms, and assisting doctors during exams. The Technician helps uphold the practice’s quality standards while contributing to a positive patient experience through effective communication and attention to detail.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for eye examinations and explain the purpose and benefits of preliminary testing
  • Perform all preliminary and doctor-requested tests accurately and efficiently
  • Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists with in-office procedures
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and maintain flow throughout the office, effectively communicating any delays
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, including cleaning instruments and managing inventory of supplies and medications
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for both patients and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the office manager, team lead, or physician(s)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (per ADA guidelines)

  • Physical Activity: Standing for extended periods, stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, and hearing
  • Physical Requirements: Light work. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to waist, 5 lbs. from waist to shoulder, and 5 lbs. from shoulder to overhead
  • Visual Requirements: Must have sufficient visual acuity to ensure accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned tasks
