Summary

Lincoln Electric is seeking a Digital Controls/Firmware Senior Engineer to join our R&D team, contributing to the development, optimization, and validation of firmware for high-performance embedded control systems in welding, plasma cutting, and EV charging applications. This role requires strong embedded systems expertise, the ability to work independently on complex problems, and the capability to influence design decisions across disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Firmware Architecture and Implementation
    • Uses engineering principles to solve complex problems in mixed-signal embedded systems.
    • Designs and implements firmware in C and/or C++ for microcontrollers and digital signal processors.
    • Takes responsibility for the architecture and design of systems or portions of systems.
  • Control and Signal Processing Support
    • Applies an understanding of digital controls and signal processing to implement and tune compensators, filters, and real-time control routines.
    • Analyzes data from system tests to validate behavior and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Testing and Debugging
    • Leads or contributes to hardware bring-up, debugging, and prototype evaluation.
    • Performs root-cause investigations of firmware issues and contributes to resolution of hardware/firmware interaction problems.
  • Documentation and Collaboration
    • Documents designs, firmware behavior, test results, and performance metrics.
    • Works closely with hardware, power electronics, controls, and software teams to ensure proper system functionality.
    • Leads and contributes to design reviews, providing constructive feedback and implementing improvements.
    • May lead project tasks or workstreams within a larger project.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded firmware using C/C++ and real-time operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
