OVERVIEW
The Lake County YMCA is seeking a creative and motivated Marketing Intern to support storytelling, content creation, social media, and in-branch marketing efforts across the Association. This part-time, temporary internship is ideal for a high school or college student interested in marketing, communications, digital media, photography, videography, or nonprofit community engagement. The intern will help capture photos and videos, create digital and print content, support social media platforms, highlight YMCA programs and member stories, and assist with promotional efforts for events and initiatives. Candidates should have strong communication skills, attention to detail, creativity, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while representing the YMCA’s mission and core values.
This is a part-time, temporary internship beginning at the time of hire and continuing through December 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Capture high-quality photos and videos of YMCA programs, events, classes, facilities, and community activities.
- Conduct interviews and gather testimonials from members, participants, volunteers, and staff.
- Create spotlight features highlighting staff members, programs, volunteers, and their impact on the community.
- Develop stories and content that demonstrate the YMCA mission in action and showcase member experiences.
- Create content that reflects and reinforces the Lake County YMCA brand message: "There is NO Place Like This."
- Assist in developing written and visual content for digital and print marketing materials.
Social Media Management
- Create, schedule, and publish content across YMCA digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other emerging platforms.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to maintain a consistent brand voice, messaging, and visual identity.
- Monitor social media engagement, trends, and analytics and prepare reports on audience growth, engagement, and campaign performance.
- Recommend creative content strategies to increase reach, engagement, and community participation.
- Develop interactive content, including polls, contests, member spotlights, and community features.
In-Branch Marketing Support
- Create content for branch digital displays, monitors, and marketing materials.
- Develop short-form videos, graphics, and promotional materials highlighting programs, events, membership benefits, and facility features.
- Ensure marketing content is timely, relevant, and aligned with organizational priorities and seasonal campaigns.
- Assist with updating promotional materials and supporting special marketing initiatives.
Community Engagement
- Attend branch events, community outreach activities, special events, and programs to capture content and support promotional efforts.
- Build positive relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners to identify compelling stories and experiences.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for the Lake County YMCA and its mission.
Additional Responsibilities
- Understand your role as a mandated reporter for child abuse and elder abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate and uphold the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Growth Mindset in all aspects of work.
- Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current high school junior or senior or currently enrolled in a college or university program in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Business, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in marketing, social media, content creation, communications, photography, videography, or nonprofit/community engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiar with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Basic photography, videography, and graphic design skills are preferred.
- Experience using content creation and design tools, such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar platforms, preferred.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff, members, and community partners.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Positive attitude, creativity, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
- Reliable transportation to travel to YMCA branches and community events throughout Lake County, as needed.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends for special events and program coverage.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Primarily sedentary, office-based work with regular use of a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
- Frequent sitting for extended periods, with occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, stair climbing, and movement throughout YMCA facilities.
- Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, filing, writing, and handling office materials.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 30 pounds.
- Sufficient visual acuity to read, review, and prepare documents, reports, computer screens, and other written or digital materials.
- Clear hearing and verbal communication in person, by phone, in virtual meetings, and in moderately noisy environments.
- Occasional exposure to environmental conditions, unstable surfaces, or outdoor settings when attending community events, branch visits, or promotional activities.
- Occasional travel within the Association’s facilities/branches or to external community locations and events.
