As Commissioning Project Manager, you’ll help clients get what they expect from their buildings - systems that perform reliably, efficiently, and in alignment with their goals. You’ll lead commissioning efforts for new construction and existing buildings, working with healthcare, education, and corporate clients on projects that make a lasting impact.
This role blends technical expertise with client advocacy. You’ll guide commissioning activities from design through post-construction, collaborating with project teams and mentoring junior staff. You’ll be part of a team that’s known for solving problems, not just identifying them, and for delivering results that matter.
The Commissioning Project Manager reports to the Director of Building Performance & Sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning services for MEP systems through the lifecycle of a building project. Tasks include design review, commissioning plan generation, commissioning specification development, managing the project commissioning issues log, reviewing equipment and system submittals, conducting construction site visits to verify installation in accordance with best practices, developing and witnessing functional performance testing, and closing out projects in accordance with the commissioning process requirements.
- Collaborate with both design and construction project teams to uphold the owner’s project requirement (OPR) goals.
- Conduct system evaluations, produce technical reports, and support colleagues with technical reviews of their projects.
- Perform Project management duties for commissioning projects within the organization
- Manage project efforts to maintain budget expectations
- Communicate the level of effort and scope of services clearly with the client and other stakeholders
- Responsible for project start-ups, billing, and contract management
- Mentor junior staff in growth, both technically and in project management – assign work, track progress, provide feedback
- Support the development of Project fees and support in the pursuit of projects through RFP or direct work opportunities (seller-doer model).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related construction field, with 10+ years of commissioning experience - or 15+ years of MEP-focused construction experience.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems and codes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative, responsive, and goal-oriented.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel regionally to job sites for testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional commissioning certifications such as CxA, BCxP, CCP, or CxPP
- Registered Professional Engineer or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
- Proficient with building automation systems as it relates to commissioning services
- Experience with healthcare and higher education building systems
- Experience with existing buildings, retro commissioning, and energy services
- Experience with LEED project commissioning and associated documentation
