About The Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Akron, Ohio.

Summary

The Generation Development Specialist will be a member of the Generation Project Development team, supporting the strategy, planning, outreach, management, and execution of large-scale, new power generation projects.

The Generation Development Specialist will work on a cross-functional team of engineers and business analysts responsible for managing day-to-day operations, ensuring project milestones are met, maintaining regulatory compliance, and developing strong relationships with external partners as needed. The Generation Development Specialist will be primarily responsible for ensuring that generation projects are on time and on budget that risks are identified and mitigated, and for developing internal reporting regarding project cost and schedule.

Responsibilities Include

  • Providing updates to leadership and the project team on project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Identifying potential risks and working with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies related to project development and construction practices.
  • Tracking and reporting on project performance metrics, implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Providing project status reports and supporting the organization of emergent information requests.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal (e.g., FERC), regional (e.g., NERC), and state regulatory requirements.
  • Assisting with the regulatory, permitting, and grid interconnection processes to ensure there are no roadblocks to projects being completed on time.
  • Facilitating Generation Project Development and Supply Chain procurement efforts on an as-needed basis.
  • Working collaboratively with internal (finance, operations, external affairs, etc.) and external stakeholders to align project goals and deliverables.
  • Participating in cross-functional teams with engineering, finance, regulatory, construction, etc., and external development partners.
  • Self-performing audits of completed projects to evaluate gaps in tools or processes.

Qualifications Include

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Risk, Construction Management or related field is required, along with 4+ years of related work experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 7 years of direct, related experience will be considered. The experience must include a basic understanding of the subject matter.
  • Works safely according to company policies and procedures
  • Analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to proactively identify complex challenges or roadblocks and make results-driven recommendations
  • Ability to identify process improvements and efficiencies, and support implementation to improve work processes
  • Delivers quality, accurate work within established deadlines
  • Demonstrate advanced interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Prepares and delivers presentations for a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Power BI, Primavera/P6, and Risk Management/Project Management tools is a plus
