REFERENCE ASSOCIATE
Full-time, 40 hours/week
Euclid Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to join the Adult Services staff. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, the ability to deliver quality service in a busy library and strong computer skills. Responsibilities include answering reference questions, developing programs for the public and assisting patrons with the use of computers.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, with library science coursework or public library experience preferred.
Schedule: 12:45 PM - 9:00 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Mondays and Thursdays, with a rotating Friday and Saturday schedule. Sunday work is available (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) from October to May. The schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the library.
Hourly Rate: $18.58 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Reference Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

The Reference Associate assists in accomplishing that mission by providing reference services to patrons.

POSITION DUTIES:
85% Public Service
* Answers reference questions and locates library materials for all patrons
* Arranges interlibrary loans and reserves
* Assists patrons in using library equipment
* Recommends materials to patrons
* Will be required to work public service points as assigned
5% Collection Development
* Assists with maintaining assigned areas of the collections as directed by a librarian
* Displays and promotes library material
5% Programming
* Prepares and conducts programs and provides instruction individually or to groups
5% Miscellaneous
* Alerts supervisor to problems encountered in work routines
* Attends meetings and serves on internal committees
* Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, training seminars and in-service training sessions
* Participates in the Strategic Planning process
* Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and/or Experience
* Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, with library science coursework or public
library experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires light physical effort including very frequent standing, walking and lifting of materials. Requires the ability to operate business office and library equipment; the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set up and maintain work files; lift, retrieve and provide materials to patrons in a timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed in good working conditions – occasionally subjected to poor physical or environmental conditions and/or occasional health and safety hazards. There is daily use of a computer. Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and requires periodic participation and attendance at library events and meetings.
