About the role
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting for general and subsidiary operations, agent residuals and merchant processing including, but not limited to, the preparation and review of balance sheet and bank reconciliations, journal entries and maintaining the accounting records.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations such as cash, accounts receivable, fixed assets, prepaid expenses and accruals including investigation into unusual fluctuations and unexpected activities
- Maintain the fixed asset tax and accounting ledgers
- Daily monitoring of merchant processing activities at the settlement bank accounts including file transmissions to and from the payment processor
- Assist with the preparation and filing of state and local tax compliance
- Preparation of daily journal entries, updates to external systems and cash disbursements as they relate to the factoring of merchant receivables
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting ledgers for subsidiary operations
- Resolve basic to moderately complex issues pertaining to financial reporting and merchant processing with input from direct supervisors
- Perform tailored in-depth analysis of large complex data sets as assigned by the senior finance leadership to support operational objectives
- Work closely with the Corporate Controller and Accounting Manager to support the financial reporting and month-end close process including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
- Provide necessary support to other accounting roles including certain tasks performed by the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager and other general operational tasks as assigned
- Act as a backup for other accounting roles as assigned
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA license or candidate a plus)
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to data accuracy and quality
- A proactive and curious mindset, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word. Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server a plus. Testing will be performed
