What the position is:
The Tax Manager is a strategic finance team member responsible for ensuring tax compliance, accurate forecasts and planning, and thorough research on new guidance.
Essential functions:
- The Tax Manager will manage, create, and implement tax plans and work with the accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential risk areas.
- The tax manager will ensure compliance with state and federal tax law through a series of systems and controls designed to ensure accurate and timely reporting, filing, and payment.
- They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulations and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies.
- Responsible for the company calculation, filing and payment of payroll withholding, state and local income, municipal tax, excise, sales and use, Ohio CAT, and property taxes, as well as Passenger Facility Charges, TSA Security Fees, Air Passenger Federal Excise Taxes, and other required filings related to income, property, and indirect taxes.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls over tax processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
- Prepare and review tax accruals, forecasts, budgets, and account reconciliations.
- Provide timely, accurate tax analysis and reporting to support financial reporting and decision-making.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Controller and Flight Operations to provide landing reports and information to airports as required as well as certain DOT filings.
- Calculate and enter all tax-related journal entries including tax accruals.
- Provide sales and use tax exemption paperwork as is necessary for Accounts Payable.
- Maintain professional relationships with tax authorities and ensure timely, accurate responses to all inquiries and filings.
- Serve as liaison with all tax jurisdictions and reconcile tax accounts in each jurisdiction.
- Manage tax notices and information requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses and proper documentation.
- Manage and collaborate with third-party tax professionals and counsel.
- Collaborate with finance, HR, and payroll teams providing guidance and forecasts.
- Assist in the annual physical inventory count.
- Regular attendance is essential for all positions at CommuteAir.
- Other duties as assigned.
General Requirements:
- 4-year degree in Finance/Accounting. Advanced degree – MBA or CPA is a plus.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in tax management, preferably in a highly regulated industry.
- Strong financial modeling skills.
- Ability to use the Microsoft Suite of products, particularly Excel and Access.
- The ability to learn and utilize proprietary systems as needed.
- A work style that lends itself to diligent monitoring and the ability to facilitate corrective action.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organized with the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities regularly.
- Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language.
- Legally authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary Work:

Visual Acuity
Includes inspection, close assembly, clerical administrative; This is a minimal standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, computer, extensive reading.

Inside environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
