Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer with electrical and commissioning experience to provide all engineering services necessary to support the Capital Plan across all Cleveland-Cliff’s facilities. The engineer will provide electrical support for project development and execution of projects to improve costs, quality, or customer service. The level of support will range from initial concept development through project implementation.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Implement and effectively utilize Cleveland-Cliffs safety standards and practices and conform to Cleveland-Cliffs environmental requirements

  • Help develop and prepare capital appropriations for submittal including estimating project costs and developing detailed scopes of work

  • Determine what resources are needed (engineering firm, field surveying, material expediting, etc.) to accomplish the intent of the project and arrange to have them available when needed

  • Execute projects from inception through implementation and start up including supervising contractors in the project implementation and reviewing and approving extra work that may occur beyond the original scope

  • Support and lead emergency repairs as required to allow the plant to return to operation in a timely safe manner

  • Maintain and track project budgets and schedules and effectively communicate to management on a regular basis

  • Ensure that the projects come in “on budget” and are completed “on-time” while delivering project objectives

  • Participate as a member of cross-functional teams in the implementation of major capital improvement projects and facility rehabilitations

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a background in electrical design, procurement, construction and/or maintenance, or equivalent experience

  • 10 years of experience in project management and implementation of major capital projects in heavy industry

  • Extensive experience with electrical equipment, operations and maintenance in an industrial situation

  • Strong understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes and standards and their impact on project activities

  • Good technical writing skills are required specifically noting construction proposal documents, scope of work documents, and client presentation packages

  • Ability to coordinate multiple craft labor resources, understand project scheduling and man-power loading and lead pre-construction activities on major and minor projects

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Ability to travel across all company facilities for project implementation

  • Extensive experience with major project scheduling and project cost control

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 plus years of experience in Electrical and Automation projects in the steel industry

  • Extensive experience with all steel related operations and maintenance

  • Extensive experience with major project scheduling and project cost control

  • Extensive experience with industrial drive and automation systems including AC/DC drives & PLC upgrades and commissioning

The salary range for this role is $125,000 to $150,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
