Holy Name High School is pleased to accept applications for the position of Long-Term Substitute Social Studies Teacher. This position would be temporary for the anticipated period defined below:
- January 5, 2026, through May 29, 2026; Ninety-two (92) days
- Daily rate commensurate upon years of experience and educational level as aligned with the CHALTA Agreement.

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and Holy Name High School are pleased to accept applications for the position of Social Studies Teacher. Founded in 1914, Holy Name High School is a diocesan-sponsored, co-educational, comprehensive high school with a college preparatory emphasis and is committed to leading young adults to Christ by educating them in mind, body, and spirit. With a population of more than 687 students in grades nine through twelve, Holy Name High School provides young men and women with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- As a member of the school faculty, the social studies instructor will be responsible for teaching 9th-12th grade social studies classes as assigned by the principal.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
- Prepare lesson plans that engage, stimulate and instruct students.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to Individual Service Plans (ISP).
- Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to school policies, regulations, and ISP.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Any other assignment deemed appropriate by the building principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education. Familiarity with the teachings, traditions, and policies, which apply to formation and development of high school-aged youth.
- The position requires VIRTUS certification and FBI/BCI background check.
- Ability to teach a variety of social studies courses
- Highly motivated with strong organizational skills; able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Self-starter; able to work independently.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from accredited university
- Valid Ohio teaching certificate
- Expertise in the field of history
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Prior high school teaching experience is preferred
