SAFETY AND SECURITY SUPERVISOR

Department: Safety and Security

Job Classification: Security Supervisor (C3)

Status: Full time, Non-Exempt, Replacement

Work Schedule: Third Shift, 11:00 PM-7:00AM, includes weekends and Holidays

Job Summary: The Shift Supervisor for the Department of Safety and Security is assigned primarily to patrol duty and performing security duties that are basic to the Safety and Security function. This also includes, but not limited, the direct and indirect supervision of the assigned uniformed personnel on his/her shift. The Shift Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Safety and Security.

General Duties and Responsibilities

A. Is responsible for the efficient operation of the Department of Safety and Security during their assigned shift of responsibility.

B. Controls and directs the activities of their assigned shift through direct supervision, guidance and leadership of the patrol officers and communications personnel assigned to their shift so that the missions of the Department will be accomplished.

C. Complies with University and departmental administrative policies and executes the service program within their area of responsibility.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities: The following outlines the essential functions of the position and is not to be considered a description of all duties inherent in the position.

Enforces university rules and regulations to ensure the orderly operation of the campus.

Exercises authority consistent with the obligations of the Supervisor position, remaining directly accountable to their assigned supervisor or Supervisor in charge.

Maintains harmonious working relationships with all campus and non-campus associates by behaving in a courteous and considerate manner.

Complies with all university and departmental administrative policies, including BW’s Community Standards of Conduct.

Responds to all intrusion and fire alarms.

Assists campus and city personnel with emergency management.

Provides vehicle assists, escorts and building access.

Create incident and accident reports through our reporting system.

Identifies all suspicious/criminal activities.

Maintains responsibility within the patrol assignment for:

o Protection of life and property.

o Promptly responding to requests for service and emergencies.

o Reporting any criminal activity, hazards, and disturbances, and the procedural reporting of such incident.

o Processing of lost property, evidence, and contraband.

o Logging and calling- in shift activity and breaks.

o Locking and unlocking interior and exterior doors.

o Satisfying the “Card Access Patrol” requirements.

Devotes the maximum time possible to patrolling the campus and responding to service requests and emergencies, remaining at the Safety and Security Office only when necessary to complete a work-related task, or when on a prescribed break.

Presents cases in the courts as directed by the Director.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications and Conditions of Employment: O.P.O.T.A. Certification is preferred. Associates degree recommended, High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Requires strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires strong customer service skills and computer skills. Must be able to physically perform foot patrols which include ascending and descending stairs. Strong commitment to diversity; must be able to work well with a diverse campus population. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver's license and remain insurable by the University’s carrier. Must successfully complete a criminal and credit background check. Must be willing and able to work a variety of shifts, schedules, and events. Must be willing and able to work overtime, weekends and holidays. Will not carry any un-issued weapons of any type.

Working Conditions: Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, weather, and/or loud noises. Moderate physical activity. Requires standing and/or walking. Work environment involves some potential exposure to physical risks.
