The Urban Minority Alcoholism Drug Abuse Outreach Programs of Ohio [UMADAOPs of Ohio] were established in 1980 via legislation spearheaded by former State Representative William L. Mallory and other pioneers such as Former State Senator 9th District, William Bowen; State Senator, Ray Miller, Jr.; Professor Jackie Butler, University of Cincinnati; Former Vice President of the Volunteer Resource Division at the Community Chest in Cincinnati, Ohio, Don Turner; and Jewell Neely, Deputy Director of Program Services, Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services. Since our inception, the UMADAOPs of Ohio have grown to become a vital force in meeting the substance abuse education, prevention, and treatment needs of African and Hispanic Americans throughout the State of Ohio. UMADAOPs of Ohio’s founder, William L. Mallory, believes that no other State has such a network and that the UMADAOPs of Ohio are to be A MODEL FOR THE NATION.
