Akkodis is seeking a Data Warehouse Engineer/Architect role is a Full-time with a client in Cleveland, OH (Remote), We are ideally looking for an applicant with strong enterprise-level production experience in data warehousing environments. The ideal candidate should have deep expertise in SQL Server, T-SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Databricks, with proven experience supporting fully implemented production solutions rather than one-off projects or POCs. Familiarity with SSIS and SSRS is required, while experience with MS Fabric and dimensional modeling would be a strong plus. This role requires someone who is highly technical and hands-on with development and implementation, not just focused on architecture or project leadership.
Salary Range: $140k-145K/annum + Benefits; The salary may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Summary
- The Data Warehouse (Architecture) Engineer works under the direction of the Data Services Manager and provides the appropriate technical leadership and strategic guidance, regarding the architecture, implementation, maintenance and ongoing support of Firm data warehousing systems and toolsets.
- The Engineer is responsible for final validation of end-user data warehousing requirements, promoting awareness and understanding of the data available in the data estate by planning and leading effective socialization campaigns, designing, defining and implementing data quality assurance processes and leading the creation of standard data architecture including dimensional model design.
- The Engineer possesses a sound understanding of all aspects of the system development lifecycle, considering they will continually be technical leads on various projects and have primary or secondary responsibility for implementation and support for the required data warehouse objective.
- The Engineer’s primary responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving high impact problems and incidents, ensuring stakeholders receive effective resolution updates and properly resolve all tickets. Additionally, the Engineer takes ownership for data warehouse issue resolution and provides technical guidance and direction to impacted project stakeholders to ensure appropriate data architecture standards and transparency are maintained.
- The Engineer is responsible for monitoring data warehouse loads during periods when successful loads are a requirement (e.g., Year End), working weekends, second shift and/or third shift, as necessary.
- The Engineer’s ability to carry out assigned tasks with no direct supervision and work well in a fast-paced, agile and fluid environment. They possess strong problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to consistently establish and socialize architecture recommendations.
- The Engineer works in a constantly evolving and rapidly changing hardware and software technology hybrid cloud environment, responsibilities include maintaining and upgrading skills through ongoing training, education, and self-study.
- The Engineer must be able to work and communicate with team members, lead meetings, work sessions and demos and work on multiple tasks in parallel with changing priorities and periodic stress-oriented situations. Travel and additional hours may be required as necessary, including regular on-call monthly support rotations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides strategy and vision for increasing the value of the data architecture platform and related data warehousing toolsets at Jones Day.
- Provides data platform training and mentoring to less experienced staff.
- Owns and assist in the resolution of support tickets.
- Quickly understands the firm’s business issues and data challenges.
- Participates in development and continuous improvement of firm strategies for data asset management and governance, including supporting requirements for security, accuracy, performance, and availability.
- Participates in building and maintaining: Data Models, Data Naming Standards, Enterprise Data Dictionary, Data Asset Inventory, and Data/Information Flows.
- Communicates with relevant data stakeholders to research and help resolve data anomalies and/or data quality issues.
- Assists information workers and development teams with outcome-focused requirements gathering and design of supporting information delivery capabilities. Lead the design, implementation, and continuous delivery of a sophisticated data pipeline supporting applications and reporting.
- Contributes on business intelligence projects.
- Works with the Firm's administrative and practice communities and development staff to understand the content and database structure of custom and third-party applications; understand when source systems change or are upgraded to assure the data warehouse changes accordingly.
- Designs and implements data models to support analytics and reporting initiatives.
- Reviews current database architecture and propose solutions to scale processing and reporting functionality.
- Prepares requirement analysis and documentation for new data and changes to existing data.
- Performs logical and physical design of data warehouse elements.
- Performs source to target mapping for data warehouse elements.
- Maintains metadata information for data warehouse elements.
- Maintains thorough documentation for data models, processes, and any changes made to the data warehouse.
- Ensures seamless data flow between various systems and the data warehouse using data integration tools and techniques.
- Enhances data analysis capabilities through familiarity with advanced analytics tools and techniques, such as machine learning, AI and GenAI.
- Provide back-up support for existing data load processes as well as special processing requirements, including changes to or incorporation of large volumes of data.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
- Relational database design and data warehouse design skills.
- In-depth knowledge of T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services and Power BI.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Fabric.
- In-depth knowledge of Azure Databricks and medallion architecture.
- In-depth knowledge of Azure Data Factory.
- In-depth knowledge of Azure storage accounts.
- In-depth knowledge of Azure Dev Ops.
- In-depth knowledge of additional data warehousing related Azure resources and toolsets, IaaS concepts, BICEP scripting and SQL PaaS is a plus.
- Familiarity with DAX.
